Anti Virus Software

Everyone on our network should have an up to date virus scanner running on their computer. Viruses turn your computer into a slug and steal our Internet connection to send out their irresistible offers to other computers.

We recommend AVG 7 by Grisoft which is free, and updates daily from our server. It seems to catch things that Norton sometimes misses.

Anti Spyware software

it is inevitable that you will pick up spyware, the quantity and quality depends on which browser you are running, and the number of dodgy sites you visit.

We are recommending Adaware Se by Lavasoft which is also free. Run it say, once a week, and it will keep your computer running fast and lean.

Firewall

You can have a firewall to stop other computers getting at yours, and to stop any nasty stuff on yours getting out.

We recommend Sygate Personal because it seems to work and it is fairly easy to understand. Unlike some more well known firewalls, which just stop you using the internet at all, which is good because you will never get any viruses or any information about anything at all except how good the firewall is.

Web Browsers

If you use MS Internet Explorer keep it up to date. Or, if you want something more simple use Mozilla Firefox

Bogus Emails

Believe me, these are all viruses. Just ignore them, and delete them. Look, we don’t have administrators or support teams, we have a bicycle, a soldering iron, and an old telephone.
